The Freedom to Fail

There’s a bargain we sometimes make with ourselves: I’ll go after what matters, as long as I don’t have to risk failing.
It sounds reasonable. But notice what it asks you to give up. The conversation you haven’t had. The idea you keep postponing. The goal you’ve adjusted until it asks nothing unfamiliar of you. Over time, avoiding failure can begin to shape your choices more than what you want to accomplish.
What might become possible if you let the goal matter without requiring a guarantee?
You still prepare. You consider the consequences. You care about the outcome. And you give yourself room to discover what you don’t yet know.
Falling short can hurt. It can also reveal where you get stopped, and this may be where your next opportunity for growth lies.
You don’t have to feel fearless. You can be uncertain, care deeply, and take the next step toward what matters.
